Experience flavors from both an Ethiopian restaurant and a Dominican restaurant |
At the heart of Asbury Park, Ada's Gojjo offers a unique culinary experience, blending the rich traditions of Ethiopian and Dominican cuisines.
Owner Adanech Asghedom, affectionately known as Ada, embarked on her culinary journey in 2009 with the opening of her first restaurant in Long Branch. Her passion for cooking, nurtured from a young age, led her to master Ethiopian recipes passed down from her mother. Recognizing the diverse community in Long Branch, she expanded her repertoire to include Dominican flavors, creating a fusion that resonates with the local palate.
In 2018, Ada relocated her establishment to Asbury Park, rebranding it as Ada's Gojjo. The restaurant quickly became a beloved spot, known for its warm atmosphere and innovative menu. During the challenging times of the pandemic, Ada's commitment to her community shone through as she continued to serve patrons with takeout and outdoor dining options, fostering a sense of family among her customers.
The menu at Ada's Gojjo is a testament to the harmonious blend of two rich culinary traditions. Signature Ethiopian dishes like Doro Wat, a spiced chicken stew served with injera, and Duba Wat, a flavorful pumpkin stew, pay homage to Ada's heritage. Dominican favorites such as sandwiches and empanadas are infused with Ethiopian spices, offering a delightful twist on classic flavors. Ada's philosophy is simple yet profound: “Never take anything away from the flavor.” This commitment ensures that each dish maintains its authentic essence while embracing new influences.
For those following a plant-based diet, Ada's Gojjo offers an array of vegan options. Ethiopian cuisine's emphasis on legumes and vegetables translates into hearty dishes like butternut squash, cabbage, and the creamy Shiro stew made with chickpea flour, all perfectly paired with injera bread.
Located at 1301 Memorial Drive, Ada's Gojjo provides free street parking in front of the strip mall, along with ample bike parking and a scooter station. The restaurant operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with takeout options popular among regulars.
In a city celebrated for its vibrant arts and music scene, Ada's Gojjo stands out as a culinary gem, offering a fusion of Ethiopian and Dominican flavors that reflect the diverse spirit of Asbury Park. |
