A recent rescue flight has brought a group of dogs and cats to New Jersey, offering them a fresh start. On January 23, 2026, a flight landed at Essex County Airport, carrying dozens of animals from South Carolina. This mission was led by volunteers from Pilots To The Rescue, who are dedicated to transporting at-risk pets to shelters and rescues in New Jersey, aiming to place them in safe, loving homes.
Pilots To The Rescue was founded in 2015 by Michael Schneider. His journey began when he learned about a litter of puppies facing euthanasia due to overcrowding in a North Carolina shelter. Combining his passion for aviation and animal welfare, Michael and a fellow pilot flew down to rescue the puppies, bringing them back up the East Coast. This experience inspired him to establish the organization, which now boasts a network of volunteer pilots committed to saving at-risk animals.
The recent flight departed from Georgetown County Airport in South Carolina and arrived in Essex County, New Jersey, with 24 dogs and three cats on board. Collaborating with the SE Coast SC Rescue Collaboration, Pilots To The Rescue ensures these animals are placed in New Jersey shelters and rescues, increasing their chances of finding forever homes.
