Hope for Abandoned Pups After Shocking Discovery in Park

One of two French bulldogs required emergency surgery for a stomach full of glass after being found starving and cold in Shark River Park.

A story of shocking cruelty and inspiring resilience is unfolding in Monmouth County after two French bulldogs were found abandoned in the woods of Shark River Park this past week. The pups, now named Diamond and Sapphire, were discovered huddled together against the cold by a compassionate local who immediately contacted the Monmouth County SPCA.

Upon their rescue, the dogs were found to be extremely skinny and suffering from bloated abdomens, clear signs of severe neglect and starvation. The SPCA staff quickly realized Diamond was having trouble walking and rushed her for X-rays. The results were heartbreaking: her stomach was filled with glass shards, likely ingested out of desperation while scavenging for anything to eat. She was taken into immediate surgery to remove the dangerous material.

According to the SPCA, Diamond has a long road ahead but is recovering under close observation. Veterinarians are cautiously optimistic that she will not suffer lasting organ damage and have her on special medication to protect her digestive tract. Her sister, Sapphire, is thankfully in better condition and is already available for adoption, waiting to find a loving forever home.

The Monmouth County SPCA is now caring for both dogs and their law enforcement division has opened an investigation into the abandonment. They are urging anyone with information about how these dogs ended up in the park to come forward. This harrowing incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community vigilance and the vital work of animal rescue organizations. While Diamond and Sapphire’s journey began in tragedy, it is now one of hope, thanks to a kind stranger and the dedicated care of the SPCA.
