Bald eagles along New Jersey’s coast are facing a serious setback as avian influenza, or bird flu, claimed half of the 56 tested eagles in 2025.
This highly contagious virus has driven a 5% drop in active bald eagle nests, sliding from 264 in 2024 to just 251 in 2025, according to state officials.
