A Coast Guard hero saved 165 people in his very first rescue mission. The rescue took place off the coast of Florida, where a boat carrying Cuban refugees had capsized. The hero, Petty Officer Third Class Evan Ward, pulled off the daring rescue by diving into the water to save as many people as he could. Red Bank, NJ—The Navesink Maritime Heritage Association is welcoming sign-ups for its 21st annual River Rangers program, aimed at children aged 10 to 14.
This immersive, five-day summer experience invites kids to explore the Navesink and Swimming Rivers with activities such as canoeing, swimming, fishing, and seining.
Young participants will build boating skills, teamwork, and lasting friendships while deepening their respect for the local marine environment.
Sessions run weekly from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM, between July 21 and August 8, supervised by experienced counselors for a safe, hands-on adventure.
The $300 fee includes all equipment and a commemorative T-shirt.
With limited availability, families are encouraged to register soon for a memorable summer on the water.
